Off-payroll reforms are back on
Confused? We don’t blame you
It’s been turmoil out there, but we’re here to help. If you’re reading this, you probably already have a fairly good idea of the turbulent history of IR35 and the off-payroll working reforms.
We’ve seen an extraordinary amount of political theatre. There was the recent, damning, Lords’ report, and a last-minute attempt from David Davis to add an additional 2 years to the current 12 month delay… But as it stands, the off-payroll working rules will come into effect, in the private sector, on April 6, 2021.
The new rules will make medium and large businesses responsible for determining the employment status of contractors, rather than the contractors themselves.
Our advice is to prepare, and do it early. We’ve been through the dress-rehearsal, we know the steps to take, and where the pit-falls are, so there are no excuses for getting it wrong. Things may well change, as we’ve seen, but being prepared is still key.
